  1. I want to start a nonprofit to help the homeless. What do I need to do?   Your very first step should be to research if such an organization is needed in your area/community. A saturation of "like-minded" organizations will actually hurt the cause rather than help it. Your idea may partner well with an existing npo.

  2. I want tax-exempt status, I do not want to pay taxes on money I collect. Each state varies in the amount of money that requires taxation by the IRS. I deal mostly with Texas npos, but can help with any state. As a rule of thumb, most small npos must now file a simple IRS Form. As with everything, there are stipulations and rule changes.

  3. I do not want to file a form with the IRS as I am a small npo and I am not even on the IRS's radar. Filing with the IRS not only validates your tax-exempt status (if you are indeed eligible) but is required by law (2008). Failing to file and update each year, can and will lead to the IRS revoking your tax-exempt status

  4. We have an excellent staff in place and do not need assistance with the actual fundraiser. We need ideas. We have received feedback that our yearly fundraiser is getting "stale". Every npo needs to "mix it up" in the fundraising department every once in a while. Unless you are a large organization that holds galas in the community each year, there is nothing wrong with a fresh approach.  I can help you find a fundraiser that matches with the needs and desires of your community.

  5. Our Board needs help organizing and documenting meetings. The key to a successful board meeting is organization. I will teach you how to organize the meetings as well as develop minutes. Clear, concise and accurate notes/minutes can save a npo.

  6. Will you promote our organization? If no, why not? If yes, how and where? After determining that your organization is a certified/recognized 501 (c) (3), I will draw up an agreement detailing where, for how long, content of promotion, etc. Promotion will/can be through my monthly blog, Twitter, Facebook, etc. *I will not promote directly on my website*.  If it is determined that your organization does not meet the required 501 (c) (3) criteria, or if I am already contracted to promote/represent a similar organization, I will not be able to promote your organization.
